About Us

History of Flagstaff Mission to the Navajo's

Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos (FMN) was incorporated in the State of Arizona in 1949 under the pioneered work of the three founders, Miss Katherine Beard, Miss Imo Wardlow and Dr. Walter L. Wilson. FMN is a non-denominational, evangelical mission with the goal to fulfill the Great Commission among the Native people. FMN’s purpose is to provide Native Christian churches with spiritual and physical assistance in reaching the lost for the Kingdom of the Lord and to provide hands-on exposure to missions and cross-cultural ministry for those who are serious about serving God in a meaningful way to educate and train disciples to serve others. FMN is governed by a Board of Directors whose policies and guidelines are carried out through administrative Directors. FMN is a member in good standing and also adheres to the requirements of the Association of North American Missions (ANAM).

Our Areas of Ministry

  • Church Development – training to assist churches in becoming self-supporting, self-governing and self-propagating.
  • Youth Development – program designed to use Biblical instruction along with other tools such as tutoring, leadership training and so on to empower the Native youth in becoming strong Christian leaders.
  • Family Camp – a summer camp designed to provide ministry areas for families – children, teens, adults & seniors.
  • Christmas Outreach – an evangelical outreach to the communities on the Navajo Nation providing the Gospel and Christmas gifts.

Our Prayer Requests

  • For FMN and missionaries (ministry and support)
  • For additional help in the program areas of ministry.
  • For committed Native believers to seek God first.
  • With less than 10% of Native people knowing the Lord, FMN faces many challenging barriers. Approximately 50,000 household have an average family size of 4.1, and 1/3 of the households have incomes of less than $15,000. Approximately 38% of the households are considered “severely poor”. The feeling of hopelessness is immense.
